1. Who Am I?
This website is operated by Ryan Hellyer. You can find me in Berlin or reach me via the contact page. My website address is: https://events.hellyer.kiwi.
2. What "Personal Data" I Collect and Why I Collect It
Since we are all participating in this exercise of "transparency," here is the riveting rundown of what data is collected.
Account Registration
When you create an account, we store your name, email address, and a securely hashed password. You may also provide a timezone preference, because apparently telling people what time things happen isn't always enough.
Event Attendance
When you RSVP to an event, we store your name, email address, and whether you actually plan to show up. Event organizers can see who is coming to their event, which seems entirely reasonable.
Events Created by Users
If you create an event, you are responsible for whatever you put in it. Descriptions, locations, questionable ideas — that is on you.
3. Contact Forms
All submissions you make through the contact form are immediately routed through formspree.io. They handle the heavy lifting of data collection and delivery. For full details on how your information is handled during transmission, please refer to Formspree's privacy policy.
4. Gravatar
We use Gravatar for profile avatars. To protect your privacy, avatar requests are handled entirely on the server side. Your browser never connects directly to Gravatar's servers, meaning your IP address and email hash are never exposed to them during normal use.
5. Cookies
Yes, we use cookies. It is apparently impossible to operate a website without them. We keep it to the bare minimum: session cookies for keeping you signed in and the usual CSRF token to stop bad people doing bad things. No tracking cookies, no advertising cookies, no "we sold your soul to an ad network" cookies. The session cookie disappears when you close your browser.
6. Analytics
We do not run any analytics on this site. No pageview counters, no click trackers, no heatmaps. What you do here is your business.
7. How Long We Retain Your Data
Account data sticks around for as long as your account exists. Event data remains at the discretion of the organizer who created it. If you delete your account, your name and email are stripped from attendance records and replaced with sensible placeholders. Events you created will still exist, they just won't be linked to your name anymore. Ghost host, if you will.
8. What Rights You Have Over Your Data
Registered users can export their data or delete their account directly from their profile settings. If you attended an event without an account, you can request deletion through our data request form. Note that we cannot delete data we are legally obliged to keep. Some things just have to stick around. Sorry about that.
9. Who We Share Your Data With
Nobody, really. Event organizers see attendee lists for their own events. Formspree sees contact form submissions. That is the extent of it. We do not sell, rent, or "monetise" your data. Your inbox will not suddenly fill with spam because of anything we did.
10. Contact Information
If you have questions about any of this, the contact page is ready and waiting.
